connection to their homeland and faith with unique scripts, British-Muslims can now celebrate their dual identity with QEII.

This innovative script was part of my Master’s research on Identity, Art, and Faith, exploring their interactions and influences. By infusing Kufi and Blackletter, two ancient scripts, I created a contemporary script that beautifully represents the British-Muslim identity.

This script not only honours the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II but also serves as a symbol of unity and diversity within the British-Muslim community.

Quran & Calligraphy: Relationship & History

In this lecture, I talk about the history of Arabic calligraphy. The relationship between the Quran and Arabic calligraphy and the influence of Islam, the diversity and the culture on the development of Arabic calligraphy.

Recording the heritage wasn’t something that Arabs would do. Their heritage was preserved orally. Islam changed that. The commandment of Allah and the need to preserve and transport the Quran created the need to write. In this talk, I demonstrate that relationship in the first three centuries of Islam. I explain why and when the dots and the short vowels were added. I also explains how the diversity of cultures contributed to the diversity of Arabic calligraphy.

Art & Identity: Lord Richard MacLeod & Siddiqa Juma

MACFEST 2019 hosted my fellow artist Siddiqa Juma and myself to talk about our journey with art, our passion, struggle. Our message and process.

In my talk, I reveal my rituals when I write Quranic pieces. I touch on art being part of the identity. How art is an engaging and non-threatening tool to express our identity.

We also talk about the Wall erected by Israel and how the art turned that horrible act into a symbol of global support for the Palestinian cause.

'A Wandering Soul's Pursuit of Integration' | Interview with Artistic Times

It was a nice Wed afternoon and I enjoyed having her with the team from Artistic Times over. We enjoyed a nice conversation and she was kind in the article she wrote about me.

I opened up and shared with Tala my passion for art and obsession with integration and always doing better on a personal and professional level.

'Culture of Calligraphy' | Interview with Northern Echo

With Sarah Foster of the Northern Echo, I drew on my experience as an asylum seeker to create the first Western/Arabic script, named after the Queen and how the title “Lord” opened doors for me.

Amazing, you could stare at each piece of art for hours, lost in its beauty.
